PRE-PROGRAM INFORMATION
What to expect from your TeamSmart experience
The program that you will be involved in is one that incorporates challenge initiatives. Initiatives are best defined as activities that teach. The activities may require some bending, kneeling, and lifting. All persons are strongly encouraged to actively participate, and we will try to accommodate those with disabilities to do so.
Activities could possible appear "silly," and may compel participants to step out of their comfort zone or be uncomfortable in one way or another. Some of the activities may require participants to be in close proximity, to give or take away power, or to not be in control. Please notify the program coordinator in advance of any concerns or special needs. Confidentiality will be maintained.
We have two philosophies at TeamSmart, Challenge by Choice and the Full Value Contract. Challenge by Choice gives each person the power to choose to participate. No one will be forced to participate in any of the activities. Encouragement will be given, and accommodations will be made if necessary. Participants are asked to respect the choice of each other and to give positive encouragement, but not unnecessary pressure. The Full Value Contract is between all participants, and is to maintain a positive program atmosphere. Part of the FVC means no discounts, put-downs, sarcasm, or smart-alecky remarks to self or other participants. We want each person to feel and see his or her full value, which is 100%.
What you can do to enhance the experience
1. Refer to the goals and objectives worksheet you completed and share these with your group prior to your program. Help them to know the purpose behind their TeamSmart experience and the challenge initiative activities that they will be involved in.
2. The group needs to understand that the activities may come across as "childish" or "stupid," but if they become involved, not worry about what others think, and have FUN, that the program outcomes will be astonishing. Encourage them to "put their hair down." The success of the program largely depends on the attitudes participants bring with them, and the attitudes they have during the program.
3. Throughout the program the staff will be asking questions and referring to the goals and objectives, in helping participants make parallels from the activities to work/life situations. The group needs to be aware that this will be done.
4. Introduce Challenge by Choice and the Full Value Contract to your group. These will be reiterated with everyone prior to starting your program.
